December 12, Final day & Exam Schedule

December 12th is the final day for our class. According to the exam schedule, IDD250 section A (regular hours 9-11:30) will meet at 10:30 instead. Section B (12:2:30) will meet at 1:00.

Your project is due at the beginning of class. In addition to posting your site on your QU server space, you must deliver a cd, or dvd, with all your project files. By doing so, you also consent to also having your site posted on my server. If you'd rather opt out of having your site live, you must inform me in writing.

Students who have conflicting exam schedules must deliver their final project before or after class on the same day. Please let me know if you have questions.

Final project/day of classes

Please note that December 12 is the final day of classes for ID250. The following is due on that day:
- The web site should be uploaded to your web space
- You must give me a CD with your complete site/resource files

By giving me the cd, you are also granting me permission to house your work on my server space, and link to it for an unspecified amount of time. If you do not want do give this permission, you must inform me in writing the same day that the project is due.

Important Update Re: Lab Access & Copyrights

A couple of important updates.

Lab Hours/cards
There's been some confusion about the lab hours and use of the access cards. The lab hours are:

M-TH: 7am-9am 5:30-6:30pm 9pm-2am
F: 7am-9am 2:30pm-2am
Sat & Sun: 7am-2am

These are the hours you may use your Q Card to access the lab. Do not let other students into the lab! If the alarm is activated during the lab hours, you may contact security. If it is outside lab hours, DO NOT CALL security. There are several Macs on the second floor of the Library that are set up the same as the lab - these are available during all Library hours and for IDD use. There are also a couple of Macs in Media Services that are set up as well - these are available during media services hours.

Copyright
Last class a few people asked about using copyrighted materials, and I promised to look into the matter. I've asked around and the general consensus is that we need to observe copyrights law, especially since our work is displayed on the internet. In general, unless the image you want to use is 72+ years old, your image(s) need to fall into these categories:
a. Obtain permission (this is often lengthy, tedious and may require $$)
b. Use copyright/royalty free images (see below for good sources)
c. Make your own images (drawing, photos etc).

Please make sure to take this into consideration when deciding on a direction for your major web project. I have worked with students in the past who have had a really hard time because they chose subject matter that relied heavily on copy right protected imagery.

Welcome to the IDD250 course blog. As you'll see from the demonstrations the first few weeks, this site will be instrumental in following the course progress.
